Don't forget: 2-29-00

It's about time for bed, but I thought I'd write a short entry here before going to sleep. I went to an elementary school today, and taught first graders. Very cute! They're just so... little! They asked tons of questions about America, we sang the alphabet song, and then they clamored for my autograph. Silly, but cute! I ate lunch with them... one little girl took my hand and led me to the lunch room,it was so sweet. Many middle schoolers are overly embarrassed about even just giving a handshake or something, so it was really heartwarming to have this little seven-year-old show no hesitation about leading me along by the hand. About lunch, it was pretty impressive to see these little kids serving everyone's meal, just like the middle-schoolers do, even if they were a little slow about it!

After lunch, the students sang a song about the upcoming Hina Matsuri, a traditional Japanese holiday for children. It was really adorable. In the midst of it all, one little girl said to me, "Wasurenaide," meaning "Don't forget."
