More snow: 1-27-00

It snowed last night- enough to stay on the ground. When I woke up this morning, I peeked out the window and was surprised to see the scenery blanketed in white... it was beautiful! I was thrilled, and took lots of pictures on my way to work. I am so silly... but it's exciting for me to be in a place where it snows! I have seen snow before, of course, but I have always had to drive a ways to get to it. San Diego is a desert, after all. It was amazing to simply step through my door and walk around in the snow. It probably only snowed a couple inches, if that, but it was enough to make the city look completely beautiful, and the surrounding hills were also covered in white. Much of it melted by noon, but I enjoyed it while it lasted. It's still snowing a little bit at the moment, so I expect it'll be another lovely winter scene tomorrow morning as well. I love the feel of snow crunching under my feet as I walk, so I look forward to more of this weather. Like I said in a previous entry, if it's going to be cold, it might as well snow!! It makes the cold worthwhile, to be surrounded by beauty.

I had an extremely nice time this evening. One of the Japanese English teachers I work with invited me out to dinner, and then to hang out at her place for a while. I don't often get invited out, so I was glad to get a chance to socialize with one of the teachers outside of a work situation. The reason I don't hang out with co-workers very much is that I feel awkward about calling people up and inviting them out, because I don't have a car. So if I invite someone to do something, it's like... "Hi, wanna go somewhere? You're driving!" I feel really awkward about that. Maybe it's silly of me, but that's just how I feel. I should probably take the initiative more, but anyway, I was happy that this teacher invited me to hang out this evening. I had a really fun time. :)
